Whimsy's log,
Chapter 117
Tuesday, August 22, 2994
At the end of the funeral ceremony I chatted with Vixen for a bit.
She mentioned that Lucretia had attempted to poison her. How sad that any
two women should fight over something so uninspiring as Eric. Chatting
with Ariana at the wake was interesting. It would have been more
productive if her sons hadn't insisted on behaving like the little
monsters they are. I tried to help out in my own fashion, but I fear I
only exacerbated the matter. Oh well.
Left the wake and returned to my room to begin research on my
Cloakspell and Personality Snuff, two spell ideas that should prove quite
useful in my current situation. But before I began the actual work on the
spells, I conjured up a clockwork bird and sent a message off to Jack,
saying that I miss him. It was only hours later that a pixie arrived
bearing a reply, stating that he would come. Other than this interruption
I was able to get quite a bit done on my research, though I shall no doubt
have to continue on this for the next few days.

The next morning I awoke and began to go through my usual morning
duties when Jack appeared in my mirror. We spoke about a great many
things, and I expressed an interest in learning the art of High Compelling
from him. He agreed, and so I brought him into my rooms. So many things
we discussed:
- distracting Fiona and Caine so as to keep them from nagging me
- how best to deal with that wretched dead sister of Nicholas'
- the Faerie Ring
- Ariana's real body and its eminent return
- Spikards and Jewels
- possible allies in Amber
Jack concluded by saying that he wanted to take a look at our 'squiggle in
the basement' and so took his leave of me, leaving me to pursue my own
thoughts. Perhaps I should take a more active interest in Faerie; I
wonder if Nicholas would consider me for an ambassadorial position?
