Whimsy's log,
Chapter 119
Thursday, August 24, 2994
Whimsy returns to her rooms early that morning and confronts a
startled Elaine. Apparently Ishmael had dropped by the previous day and
'assassinated' the simulacrum Whimsy left in her place. The two chat a
bit about his rudeness, and Whimsy provides Elaine with a magical corset
which greatly enhances her strength, as well as protecting her from harm.
Elaine seems dubious but accepts the garment, nonetheless.
Using her magic mirror, Whimsy looks in on Jack, only to see him
rapidly fleeing through Shadow. She checks on Fiona and finds her doing
the same. Somewhat concerned about this, she queries Elaine further about
what had transpired in her absence. Whimsy also learns that there had
been some trouble, and that several family members were currently in the
infirmary, and so she goes there to learn what had happened.
Many of the family are there, gathered around the sleeping forms
of Laughter and Foster. Ariana is kind enough to fill Whimsy in on what
had transpired. She attempts to lay blame with Jack, which Whimsy finds
rather ludicrous. Not his style at all. She also explains to Whimsy
about how Jack must be invited into Amber, and how only the person who
invited him can uninvite him.
Ishmael comes along, dragging his sword alongside him, and so
Whimsy becomes invisible and hides from him while he chats with Ariana.
She goes to find Nicholas, but he is busy, so she goes to her room where
she creates and dispatches another clockwork bird. This one carries no
message, but its significance will be obvious to Jack. They need to
talk.
At lunch, Whimsy encounters Ishmael and they have a long chat.
Feeling a need to take some action, he persuades Whimsy that they should
track down Jack and deal with him. For her own reasons, Whimsy feels it
would be a good idea to stop him personally. The journey is terribly
slow, however, as neither possesses Pattern, but eventually they encounter
Teresa, who is surprised to find them, and amazed at what they are
attempting. She reveals that Jack is on an intercept course to meet
Fiona, possibly to pose as Brand and throw them off his trail. Whimsy
Trumps Fiona and asks to help, leaving Teresa and Ishmael behind.
Arriving on horseback, Whimsy finds herself in the middle of a Hellride.
She uses her magic to summon protections, and uses Deirdre's girdle to
take the guise of Teresa.

Hours later, they stop and Brand shows himself. Or rather, Jack
in Brand's guise appears, only to be immediately captured in a magical
field created by Teresa's use of the Spikard. Without bothering to
explain herself, Whimsy immediately retracts her invitation, and then
assumes her natural form. Jack and Whimsy banter for a bit before Teresa
asks if she can send him back to Faerie. Before Jack leaves, Whimsy
states that he is not to interpret the clockwork bird she recently sent as
any sort of invitation.

When Whimsy turns around, Fiona has Brand in her grasp and is
psychically pummeling him. When he is unconscious, Benedict throws him
over his shoulder, and Fiona uses her power to take them directly to the
Great Hall of Castle Amber. The family is already gathered, and judgment
is pronounced. What to say about his punishment, save that it is just and
deserved.
Afterwards, Whimsy invites Ishmael, Ariana, and Mirelle out to
drink. They go to an inn in Amber City and proceed to trade wicked
stories and get terribly inebriated.
