Girls Who Code Data Science Club

We are looking for applicants for our 2024-2025 Girls Who Code Club which will meet weekly on Tuesdays, September 17th, 2024 - April 29th, 2025 from 6:30-8pm in-person at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor Central Campus. Our free Club provides a supportive environment for 9th-12th graders to learn how to code. Our curriculum is focused on data analysis with Python, where participants will learn core coding concepts and apply their new skills to a data science project of their choosing. We do not expect applicants to have any prior coding knowledge. Anyone who supports our mission is welcome to apply, regardless of gender identity. By the end of the club you can expect to:

  • learn introductory and intermediate skills in the programming language Python
  • identify questions that can be asked of real-world data
  • perform basic statistical analyses
  • communicate your findings with the public
  • gain confidence in your critical thinking, logical reasoning and communication skills
  • understand the variety of career opportunities available in data science
