Averages prices for goods and services, ranging from a pound of
hamburger to housing values, in selective metropolitan areas. Compares
the differences between cities using 100 as an average cost. Primarily

American Community Survey
Full range of 2000 Census variables: demographic, social, economic and
housing characteristics. Samples collected each year and published with a
one to four year delay for the nation, states, and areas of 65,000+ (MSAs,
counties, cities, Congressional Districts). When fully implemented may

American Housing Survey
Full range of 1990 Census variables (value, rent, vacancy/occupancy),
fuels, equipment, and occupant characteristics published for very large
metropolitan areas on a rotating basis. Summary data is

Microdata
can be obtained through a data extraction system but the paper copy is easier for most people.

Administration on Aging
Web site focused on services to the aging but has state data on the
elderly as well as poverty numbers. Links to other federal agencies with

CACI - Sourcebook of Demographics for Every Zip Code (CACI)
Current year estimates and five-year projections of households and household size, population, sex, race, age, and household income for zip codes. No metropolitan area, county, or city totals. Paper only.

County and City Data Book
Issued every five years by the Census Bureau, it provides the most
Decennial and Economic Census Data as well as additional information on
crime, hospital beds, consumer price index, for states, counties, cities,
and places of 2500+. The University of Virginia Library has created a

Current Population Survey
Monthly surveys of the labor force and annual demographic surveys of
income, poverty, benefits, and other social characteristics. Data issued
for the nation, states, large metropolitan areas, and selected central
cities. The magnetic tapes are located at the Inter-University
Consortium for Political and Social Research and accessible to UMich
researchers through the Political Science Department's Computer
Assistance Program. A joint BLS/Census Bureau product entitled
Data
Ferret permits the novice and expert to extract data for
national,
state, and metropolitan areas. The Census Bureau's Data Extraction System provides free access but data must be manipulated once downloaded. See the Census

Census Enumerations for descriptions
of individual surveys. The 1993 Income and Poverty Survey is located on
CD-ROM in the Documents Center (CD-ROM DoX36), although users may need to
be familiar with their own programming.
