Background
- A U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft was flying 60 miles from Hainan on
April 1
- A Chinese plane clipped the aircraft and crashed
- The U.S. plane made an emergency landing on Hainan
- The plane and 24 crewman were captured by the Chinese military
- China released them on April 12, 2001
