Monthly Bills were the parish clerk’s way of organizing, from his own earlier individual slips of paper, a record of the month’s fees from the major parish events of weddings, baptisms, churchings, and burials. The Bills contain much fuller information about trades, locations, and status of parishioners than do the Parish Registers, into which some of the details from the Bills would eventually be copied. The London Archive (TLA) houses a sequence of monthly bills from 1578 through 1628, as listed below. The present site offers transcriptions of only a few of these at present, but it is hoped that more will follow.
