| Each year, on Michaelmas (29 September), the twenty-six aldermen of the City's Court of Aldermen selected one of their number to be Lord Mayor for the year to come. The newly selected Lord Mayor's term of office began four weeks later, on the Feast Day of SS Simon and Jude (28 October), and his ceremonial installation was on the day following. |
