Jason Owen-Smith is Professor of Sociology, Research Professor in the Institute for Social Research (ISR) Survey Research Center (SRC) at the University of Michigan.
His research focuses on the dynamics of large scale networks and their effects on knowledge intensive work and innovation with a particular focus on science and engineering research and surgical care.
Jason is co-founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Research on Innovation and Science (IRIS), which collects, curates and shares data to help understand, explain and eventually improve the public value of investments in academic research.
Jason's new book Research Universities and the Public Good: Discovery for an Uncertain Future was published by Stanford University Press.
