Ice at the end of the south pier. This ice was actually swirling around due to the current.
One nice thing about the lack of ice was that you could easily walk past the first lighthouse without falling into the lake.
There were some very minor swells which caused the ice to rise, fall, collide, and creak.
This was stitched together from 4 photos so it looks a bit odd. You can see that most of the ice had melted off the lighthouse.
I wish I could jump from iceberg to iceberg, without dying. Hey Hollywood, I know the new tax breaks are inducing you to shoot more films in Michigan. So, the next time you need to add a chase scene to your big action movie, rather than doing a car chase that we have all seen a million times before, why not have an iceberg chase scene where the good guy and bad guy are jumping from iceberg to iceberg? It would be awesome, trust me.
The beach. If only we hadn't forgotten our beach towels.
Cracked ice. All the king's horses and all the king's men could not put Lake Michigan back together again. The horses would be especially useless.
The ice shelf was thoroughly sprinkled with sand.
Satellite photographs (from NOAA CoastWatch) of Lake Michigan on Feb 5 (left) and Feb 10 (right) show just how much things can change in a few days.

Last year, around the same time, there was a bit more ice on the lighthouse (shown above).
