This was part of an unplanned trip to Boulder with little time for exploring the mountains. I am really glad we were able to spend a half day on Mount Evans though because the aspen trees were lighting up the mountain sides like fireflies in the night sky. I wasn't really sure where the best place would be to enjoy the fall color in the vicinity of Boulder, but Mount Evans is actually quite nice, there are many aspen trees leading up to Echo Lake.

It was an overcast and slightly stormy day, although no rain or snow fell where we were. Mount Evans had some fresh snow on it and was draped in clouds. The weather up at Summit Lake (12,830') was 37F and windy. Since we hadn't planned to hike any on this trip I had no cold weather gear so I just ran around in the cold to the Chicago Lakes overlook and a little beyond. Would love to come back some day and do some actual hiking.
