Russell House Hotel

The Russell House was built in 1857, then rebuilt and expanded in 1881. There might also have been a older structure by that name, and it too was known as Detroit's best hotel.

Promoted as "the most complete and elegant hostelry in Michigan'" the 1881 hotel served all man ner of affluent customers as well as the Prince of Wales and the Grand Duke Alexis of Russia.
