The mighty Mackinac Bridge, spanning five miles between Michigan's Lower and Upper Peninsulas.
The red roofed lighthouse at the south end of the bridge.
This picture reenacts the first photo ever taken of Heather and I together.
Yooper customs. It’s a different world up there!
Our first stop was Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Our friends had arrived earlier in the day to secure a campsite. They found a choice secluded site down miles and miles of dirt roads, it was only half a mile (easy) hike in.
Heather lounging in the sun at our campsite.
We were just over the crest of the dune on the beach, our backyard was Lake Superior.
We had the whole beach to ourselves!
Dan and Heather by the campfire. This was the weekend of the Perseid meteor shower; we lay in the sand on the beach late at night and saw a couple dozen meteors. Because there was absolutely no light pollution, it was a spectacular show.
After we hiked out, Heather made blueberry pancakes with the blueberries I picked around our campsite.
Don't even think of touching it until it is done!
The fabled Pictured Rock cliffs, framed by a tree.
Looks like some tropical paradise, eh? Of course, the water is 45 degrees year round.
We hiked to this waterfall on our way out of the park.
