When the King of Morocco invites you to dinner, you know you are in for a special treat.
The feast was prepared at the Menara Gardens in the largest tent I had ever seen. It was quite an operation.
The first course (not counting the sweets that the waiters brought around) was a large pastry filled with a sweet meat mixture. This dish alone could probably have been enough for our whole table to eat.
Next, some bread.
Followed by a dish of lamb.
After the lamb comes the chicken dish. I later heard that the King actually attended the dinner, he was the guy in blue surrounded by men who looked like they were high ranking military officers.
Of course it would not be a Moroccan banquet without couscous!
Finally for some desert. With a wafer thin piece of chocolate, I insist!
The chefs must be getting the message about proper diets, as they brought us our 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables to top off the meal. I later gave one of the King's bananas to an older woman who sleeps with a young boy at her side in the alley near where I am staying. She seemed quite stunned to receive the banana, she must have known that it was a gift from the King!
