The west side of Cape Breton is an Acadian region and has a moderately festive and progressive atmosphere. Tourism appears to be one of the main industries. The village of Cheticamp has a co-op complex that includes a restaurant serving Acadian dishes, a gift shop of locally home made crafts, and a little museum.
On the practical side, there is a grocery store, credit union, and building supply store.
