Grand Canyon
I had to stop by and see one of the wonders of the natural world.
I was not the only one around.
Actually, the place was filled with tourists from around the world. Definitely the most international crowd seen on this trip. Here are the train cars that used to bring tourists here before air travel became commonplace.
Young man on the mountain.
I hiked the Bright Angel trail, one of the more popular ones despite the steep descent.
There are no shortage of great views here.
I hit the road and headed east.
In Winslow, Arizona, there is a monument to the town’s patron saint, Neil Young. Ironically, the original version of the song had him standing on the corner in Flagstaff, Arizona. Flagstaff is a nice little college town, where Neil was more likely to find women to occupy his mind, but Winslow probably just sounded better.
The Painted Desert.
These bushes had a strong aroma resembling very dark chocolate.
More painted desert.
Here is a memorial to Route 66, The Mother Road, which passed through these parts many years ago.
Petroglyphs left by the locals a thousand years ago.
These structures are not surprisingly known as “the pyramids.”
The petrified forest.
On my way across the state, I stopped in the Navajo Nation and got some good stew and fry bread.
