March 2008: New York City

Photo Index

I seem to be in NYC quite a bit, although this time I did see an area I did not visit before because the conference was held at Teacher's College, Columbia University.

Columbia University library.

The view from the library steps.

Teacher's College. The campus is quite compact due to the lack of avaialable space. The buildings look impressive, as would befit an Ivy League campus. However, the insides resemble unrenovated NYC buildings with multiple layers of peeling paint over concrete. The clanking steam radiators are either on or off, so on these early March days the radiators were on and the windows were open because it would get way to hot otherwise. I guess that the expense of being in NYC limits the funds available for updating the facilities.

My brother Mike lives a block away from Central Park and the Natural History Museum (on the left).

He is also less than a kilometer from Strawberry Fields, so of course I stop by every time I visit. This was the first sunny morning on my trip and the area was crowded with a German tour group taking pictures.

On to the Big Easy
