Tijuana, Octubre 2008

Tijuana is where Americans have come to party since Prohibition. There are
large naval bases in San Diego and the drinking age in Mexico is 18 (no one
will card you unless you are 4 feet tall and wearing a Dora the
Explorer T-shirt). The San Diego trolley takes you
right to the border crossing and there are no customs going into
Mexico- you just go through these one way turnstiles (pictured here).

Tijuana is a big city; it actually has a larger population than San
Diego, but most of the action is on the 10 block main drag of Ave. Revolucion and the
walking path from the border crossing to there. There are no big high-rises, but there is a giant arch sculpture (shown here) that you can see after you cross the border which helps you get to Ave. Revolucion. I suspect that at one point in time the sign in the arch was lit up at night.

I arrived at dusk on a weekday, just when many of the vendors were closing up shop. Here are the vendor stalls as seen on the way back, I image the place is a real circus on weekends. I did not take too many pictures because it was dark and the last time I took a digital picture in Mexico I was promptly relieved of my camera and cash by pick pockets.

Here is the Ché café, with revolutionary cuisine no doubt.

This is the busiest international border crossing the world. You can see the vendors hawking to the long line of cars waiting to get back into the USA.

I took the pedestrian path instead and joined the handful of people breezing through customs.
Adios por ahora!
