Classic Presentation |
Occur suddenly during sleep, the child is suddenly agitated and frightened, although they are unable to explain why. They are often diaphoretic, tachypneic, tachycardic, flushed, and inconsolable. The episodes may last greater than 30 minutes, however the child is often able to return to sleep, and often they do not recall the event in the morning. It is unclear if the child actually awakens during the episodes, and attempting to awaken them may simply increase their distress.
