RESEARCH IN NEUROLOGY
A major advantage of the Web is quick access to information,
including current research studies. Examples of clinical research
efforts of interest to child neurologists include Child-Neuro's
listing of Current
Studies Seeking Patients , the clinical research database from
the National Cancer
Institute, and the NIH
Clinical Trials Database. A listing of Basic
Science Efforts have also been compiled by the Research Committee
of the Child Neurology Society.
The Epilepsy Foundation of America has launched the Epilepsy
Gene Discovery Project. The purpose of this project is to enlist
families with hereditary epilepsy for future participation in
clinical genetic research projects. The families provide information
about their own pedigree
by filling out a questionnaire over the Web. The EFA would then
verify the information and match those interested in volunteering
their pedig ree with the appropriate genetic researchers. This is an
exciting use of Web based resources to collect research
information.
