The University of Michigan Athletic Department cordially invites you to become part of a new tradition. You have the opportunity to play at the finest state-of-the-art tennis venue in the country. The Varsity Tennis Center is home to the U-M men's and women's varsity squads. The Varsity Tennis Center has been picked as the site of the women's Big Ten Conference Championship in the spring of 2000 and hosted the men's championship in 1999. The six-million-dollar project, funded through the generosity of lead donors Preston Robert Tisch (Indoor Building), William Clay Ford (Outdoor Courts) and friends of the University, is a masterful display of thoughtful design. The eight indoor courts enjoy an expansive area (20') between each other, along with generous space (24') from baseline to curtain. The clean lines of the reflective ceiling are textbook examples of indoor court lighting. Using 16 lights per court, the facility produces an average of 165 foot-candles, more than adequate to host television coverage. The 12 outdoor courts have 24 feet between each other, along with 21 feet from baseline to fence. There is also spectator seating for 600.
During the Fall/Winter Season court time from 2-6 p.m. is reserved for varsity practice (Monday-Friday). Call for exceptions. The Athletic Department reserves the right to close the building at its discretion for events.
