To be admitted to Michigan Stadium, a student must present at the gate their student ID or Mcard, along with their student ticket. No one shall use an ID of another student for this purpose.
However, a non-student may use a student ticket if it is "validated." Once validated, anyone may use the ticket for admission. Any student may validate up to 4 tickets per week by presenting their student ID, paying $25.00 per ticket and having an "unrestricted use" sticker(s) affixed to the ticket(s). FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why are student IDs now required?
The reason for the ID policy is to ensure that all U-M students who want to buy season football tickets can do so. The demand for student tickets fluctuates each year. Instead of capping the number of student tickets available, U-M student leaders supported the idea of requiring a student ID to accommodate all student ticket requests. To encourage active student participation at our football games, we provide students with tickets at a price that is approximately half of the public ticket price. It is only fair that if a non-student uses a student ticket, that person should pay the same price as the rest of the public ticketholders.
2. Can I use student tickets to get my family or friends into a game?
Yes, they can go to the game if you find students who will not be using their football tickets. You may purchase validation stickers for $25 each at one of the five locations listed above where a sticker will be affixed to the front of each student ticket. Once validated, no refunds will be issued and your family and friends may use these tickets for admission without a student ID.
3. Do I have to wait until the week of each game to validate a student ticket?
No, you may validate up to 4 student tickets per week starting August 26, 2002, for any home game. For instance, if you know at the beginning of the season that you cannot attend the Washington, Utah, Iowa and Penn State games, you can validate all of these tickets the week before the Washington game. Once validated, no refunds will be issued and anyone may use the ticket for admission without a student ID.
4. Can I validate a ticket on game day at the stadium?
No, however the Ticket Office at the Michigan Union will validate from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday.
5. Can I give my ticket to another student without paying the validation fee?
Yes, you may give your ticket to another U-M student, who may use his or her ID to be admitted to the stadium.
6. Is the student section general admission under this new student ID policy?
No, the seat number on your season ticket will be the reserved seat for you or any person holding your validated ticket.
7. Will I need to get to the games earlier?
Yes, it is recommended that you arrive at the game earlier than previous years due to the visual check of IDs and increased security measures. Gates open 2 hours prior to kickoff.
8. Do I have to enter a certain gate to be admitted with my student ID?
No, you may enter the stadium at any gate provided you present a student ID along with your football ticket or your family or friends present a student ticket with a validation sticker affixed to it.
9. What if I lost my ID?
Ann Arbor students who lost or misplaced their Mcard must obtain a replacement prior to game day during normal business hours at an ID station. There will be no ID station open on game days! Please visit www.mcard.umich.edu for more information. Dearborn and Flint students must obtain a replacement from their respective campuses.
