The Michigan Squash Team is back!
Our last newsletter was sent in September of 2020...
Last year was a tough year for everyone involved, including the team. When it became clear to us that we were not getting back in the courts anytime soon, we realized that the monthly newsletter was not going to be too exciting.
But alas, we are back and have so much exciting news for you. For starters, we held our first official tryouts in the history of the program. After gathering interest from over 40 people and running three days of squash drills and competition, we finally put together our 12-player roster. New names include Vishal Prashant, Lilly Knott, Vivaan Mahtab, Bob Li, Rahul Khullar, Erik Barker, and Jesse Scherl. Better yet, of these seven we have one freshman (shoutout Lilly) and five sophomores! We are really excited to have so many younger players as this ensures the continuity of the team. Now it’s time to get playing. We are still putting together our season but have our eyes on tournaments in Chicago, Cincinnati, Denison, Philadelphia, and more. We will finalize the schedule sometime this month and will give you the exact dates and locations in the next newsletter. Stay tuned!
Finally, we’d like to update you on our new E-Board. Jeremy Waldman and I will continue serving as the Co-Presidents. Conor Hynes, who served as Social Chair for the last two years, has now taken over Andrew Garver’s role as Team Manager. The team Social Chair is now Anourag Shah, while Jesse Scherl is now our Social Media Manager (check out @michiganclubsquash on instagram to see the amazing work he has been doing), and Gaurav Shekhawat is our Merchandise/Website Chair. The season is off to an incredibly strong start thanks to the hard work of these gentlemen.
