Michigan Squash Newsletter - December 2021

December 1, 2021

Greetings from the Michigan Squash Team!

The season has officially begun and we are off to a hot start. Over the weekend of November 12th, we traveled to Ohio and competed in a round robin hosted by the Jesters Club at the Cincinnati Country Club. On Saturday, we defeated Kenyon College 9-0, Carnegie Mellon University 8-1, and Indiana University 7-2. Then on Sunday we played Ohio State in the finals and emerged victorious with a 6-3 match score.

The team showed up to this tournament with excitement and hunger and we got to see our hard work pay off. We were down four players due to sickness and other issues, which meant that our #12, Lilly Knott, and even our Director of Operations, Conor Hynes, were called to action playing #8 and #9 on the ladder respectively. Both of them stepped up to the challenge and secured multiple wins over the weekend, further evidencing just how deep our ladder is this year! Check out some pictures below:

After emerging from the tournament with a strong 4-0 record, we were excited to see that the CSA had once again featured the team in its November Newsletter. Shortly after, the first CSA season rankings came out and we found ourselves at #7 in the country for club teams and #40 overall.

This weekend, we’ll play Denison University which will be our biggest match in program history. Denison’s team was recently promoted from club to varsity status by the university, meaning they have plenty of funding and a few recruited players. While it is poised to be a very close match, we have one thing they don’t: something to prove. We want this win badly to show to our University and the rest of College Squash what we are capable of and how hard we are willing to work.

In other news, we should finally be launching our gear pop-up shop so that everyone can buy Michigan Squash merchandise! I will be sending out an email as soon as that is available. Additionally, we will look to start some fundraising, with more information to come shortly.

Finally, we are almost certain now that Club Team Championships will be taking place from February 18-20 in Philadelphia. We hope to see some of you there!

That’s all for this edition of the newsletter. We hope you enjoyed this edition of the newsletter and if you think someone else would too, please forward them this email and encourage them to click the link below:
