Greetings Michigan Squash fans!
This month’s newsletter is brought to you by Sophomore Viv Mahtab - after a long stint by Lou and an edition by Jeremy, the mantle has officially been passed onto someone who will not be graduating in the next three months.
So far, 2022 has been outstanding for Michigan Squash! The team began our year at the Detroit Athletic Club, which was kind enough to invite us to a mixer with its members. Our players enjoyed singles and doubles games (though the latter significantly less as we got our butts handed to us) and we’re already looking forward to the next visit. Check out the picture from the event below:
On February 5th we’ll be traveling to the Birmingham Athletic Club (BAC) for a similar event. Connecting with these squash communities in Michigan has been an immense pleasure and we are so excited to be a part of the state-wide squash movement.
Following our successful DAC excursion, the team traveled to Chicago for a round robin against Northwestern, Northeastern, and Arizona State University. With the fervor we’ve come to expect from our players at this point, Michigan brought home convincing victories against Northwestern (9-0) and ASU (9-0), and finished with an unblemished record after an intense match against Northeastern (6-3). With three more victories under our belt, Michigan now has an overall record of 9-0 and with a match against Notre Dame this upcoming weekend, a potential “double digit” season is a very real possibility for this powerhouse of a team! As you can see, we left Chicago all smiles:
The match against Notre Dame is actually a historic event in-and-of itself. That’s because it’ll be our first home match ever! The DAC will be hosting this matchup on February 6th at 2 PM. We have dozens of friends carpooling to the club to come support us. For them, it’ll be the first time ever seeing their friends on the team play squash in person. Many of them will be seeing squash for the first time in general. We are ecstatic and could not thank the DAC enough for offering to host. We hope to see some of you there!
For those of you that have donated or are considering donating to this team, our captain Lou has brought some exciting news for you too (well, he was excited by it, I’m a computer science student so this went way over my head). Lou has gone through the trouble to file for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status with the IRS and when approved (which should be soon) all past and future donations made to this organization will be tax deductible! He’ll be sending a more in-depth update on this very soon.
Maintaining our title as the #1 ranked club team in the country (#32 overall), we now have our eyes on The Club Team Championships taking place in Philadelphia from February 18-20. With dozens of teams from around the country flocking to the City of Brotherly Love, the squash competition should be through the roof. If the hunger our athletes have shown throughout the entire season is any indication, well, let’s just say we like how the word “Champions'' sounds. We’ve already heard that many of you are making the trip to come support us and cannot wait to have some Michigan fans in the stands as we chase after our first national title!
We hope you enjoyed this edition of the newsletter and if you think someone else would too, please forward them this email and encourage them to click the link below:

That’s all folks! Thank you for your time and I’ll see you in next month’s edition with more updates on the team. Have a great February - this is Viv signing off, Ciao!
Sincerely,
