This is the federal agency that acts as the hub for all government aging services and provides the network of state and area agencies on aging. The Web site is chock full of information and links to other related government sites.

This federal agency operates all of veteran's services. The Web site is excellent and will save you a great deal of time. You can determine benefits, who qualifies for what, and how to apply. Contact information is provided and application forms can be downloaded and printed.
Eldercare Locator

This service is run by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging. If you call and describe your problem, someone will direct you to local and regional agencies for senior services and to your local area agency on aging. You can also receive this info by visiting the Web site.
Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

This federal agency runs low-income housing for seniors. Visit its Web site to find out about federal congregate housing and other housing services.
Medicare Hotline

Call the Medicare Hotline to inquire about plans and what HMOs offer service in your area, to get brochures mailed to you, or to complain about problems or report fraud. At Website: www.medicare.gov you can click on "Nursing Home Compare" and get the latest inspection reports on every nursing home in the country.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The NIA conducts and supports biomedical, social, and behavioral research; provides research training; and disseminates research findings and health information on aging processes, diseases, and other special problems and needs of older people. The NIA offers a wide variety of free publications for the public and for health professionals. Information Specialists can send you a list of all our free publications. NIA funds the Alzheimer’s Disease Education and Referral Center (ADEAR).
