Steps:
1. Contact the patient/family local congressman and request their assistance.
To find your congressman:
United States House of Representatives click on the "write to your representative" item and you will find a search by state & zip code
Call the local office and speak with a staff person. Ask them what needs to be done to facilitate a family member getting a visa. If the staff person indicates a letter from a physician verifying a medical condtion would help, then the social worker can facilitate getting that letter.
Medical letters written for this purpose should include specific medical information and include clear descriptions of what that means. For example: The individual has a C3 fracture with spinal cord involvement. This means the person will be unable to walk, use his hands, or dress himself independently. It may mean that they will require assistance to breath. Duration of condition should also be included. For example: This is a temporary condition or While this condition may improve to the extent the person could be discharged from home, he will have repeated hospital stays over the next years of his life. If the condition is potentially fatal and life expectancy is short this should also be included.
