Traverse City. My downtown. People come here to lounge, loiter, eat food, buy food, enjoy the day, enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the shade, have lunch, take a break. They are forced to leave their cars behind. A place for locals, second homers, and visitors. Sheltered from the bay winds, the outdoor season is extended. Turn your back on the highway, climb to get a view of the bay. This is the city’s living room.

Program is driven mainly by the farmer’s market, which only happens for part of the year a few days a week. This space is also designed to be used as a lunch destination for people who work downtown, or near to downtown. Vendors set up in the same space as the farmer’s market and people can come to eat and enjoy the day; sitting along the knee wall or on the stairs. The large structure at the west end of the space can be used for a number of activities. It is large enough that the market can move inside on days when there is bad weather. It is a common space for the town, where town meetings can be held, parties, receptions, and festivals.
