Like most cities, those that live in Traverse City have extremely different attitudes toward its future. Such conflict is evident in the current farmers market which exists more as a member’s only club than a place of support for the local agricultural industry. In order to appease, question and oppose these opinions, it was important to me to design a farmers market that would create a sense of community through a celebration of food. By focusing on the role of the car as well as the stages of food from the farm to the table, I was able to challenge one’s daily interaction with the market itself along with all of the food bought, prepared and served within. My hopes in raising such issues were to showcase the role of food to the Traverse Bay area as well as the means by which food is treated as it arrives fresh off of the truck.
