Welcome to the home

(NCPI).
National Center for Postsecondary
Improvement
Based at Stanford University, NCPI is an institutional
partnership among three leading research universities: Stanford University,
the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan. NCPI's mission
is to provide leadership for the transformation and improvement of postsecondary
education in its diverse forms from research universities and comprehensive
colleges to community colleges and vocational-technical schools. Through
its research and dissemination activities, NCPI seeks to help institutions
and policymakers adapt to a growing set of internal and external pressures,
as well as to inform students, civic leaders, faculty and administrators
about emerging issues in higher education.
Project 5 - Student Learning and
Assessment
NCPI Project 5 examines the effectiveness of assessment
mechanisms for improving student learning from three distinct vantage points
from outside the institution through state policy and accreditation practices,
from within the institution as it seeks to respond to change, and from the
perspective of faculty and students, whose lives are affected by the shifting
composition and preparedness of the nation's student population. The aim
of these research activities is to uncover incongruencies across state,
campus and individual levels and to develop recommendations for improving
student learning and instructional quality.
