For quite a number of years, we all have been looking forward to the formation of such an association where we can have our own INTERNATIONAL HOMEPLACE outside China to communicate, discuss, exchange, express, connect, socialize, help or look for help, contribute, unify, ......, and be proud of. Now we are pleased to inform you that we have initiated the organizing process. The establishment of this Steering Committee is the first step in this endeavor. We are here to ask you for your participation and assistance as well as to welcome your comments and suggestions. Together we will bring the association into being very soon. Here are the outlines on the Steering Committee's plan: PURPOSE TO FORM THE STEERING COMMITTEE 1) To help making a better worldwide alumni connection; 2) To help establishing the ONMUAA. PURPOSE TO FORM THE ONMUAA AND BENEFITS TO OUR ALUMNI 1) To satisfy the alumni's needs; Many of us have long expressed our interest in the issue and/or strongly indicated the urgency to form our association in order to be better connected with each other worldwide; 2) To establish a positive image of ourselves as a group in particular and the NMU in general outside China; 3) To build up a stronger connection among alumni and families, with NMU campus, with other Chinese university alumni associations, and with other institutions if necessary; 4) To help each other with mutually interested issues, career development, scientific information exchange and possibly in research collaboration among alumni and with Nanjing campus. Currently we expect more than two hundred NMU alumni(ae) are working or studying outside China where a lot of us have well established ourselves in life and career. Many have achieved a great deal academically or professionally, which has been well recognized by the scientific community. Alumni research results have been well published in many important national and international scientific journals such as "CELL", "NATURE" and others. Time has come for us to share our success and experience with those alumni who are still in career development, and with our home--Nanjing and China. A formal overseas alumni association will be of great help to this international exchange of biomedical science and technology; 5) To resolve such practical issues as the alumni directory compiling and updating, homepage setting up and maintenance, newsletter compiling and circulation, alumni requests for Nanjing campus (such as obtaining certificates for Board exam and transcripts), and others as relevant. 6) To facilitate the establishment of local or regional alumni organizations which might better serve local alumni for various purposes. All alumni who now reside outside China and once studied, worked or associated with NMU will automatically become the member of this association. To set up an official ONMUAA homepage for information exchange is the number one priority of this organizing process. Alumni information from Nanjing and other places in China will be posted here for your reference. The newsletter will make the information exchange better. The alumni directory will provide updated alumni addresses and telephone numbers. In this way, we will be globally well connected. FORMATION OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE AND ITS FUNCTIONS The Steering Committee was recently formed by a group of alumni volunteers, in North America, from various NMU schools or departments including many school years wherever available. Most of us have been active over the years in alumni affairs, and have already done a lot of work in alumni networking. We would like to continue our contribution toward the formation of our ONMUAA.
