Sylvia Hurtado

Sylvia Hurtado is Associate Professor of Higher Education at the University of Michigan's Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education. Dr. Hurtado has published articles and research reports related to her primary interest in student educational outcomes, campus racial climates, and diverse students in higher education. Her recent publications include: Enacting Diverse Learning Environments (ASHE-ERIC Report, in press), Differences in college access and choice among racial/ethnic groups: Identifying continuing barriers, (1997) Research in Higher Education; Latino student transition to college: Assessing difficulties and factors in successful adjustment (1996), Research in Higher Education; and articles on the campus racial climate at the undergraduate and graduate level. She currently serves on the American Educational Research Association's Panel on Racial Dynamics in Higher Education. Dr. Hurtado obtained a Ph.D. in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, an A.B. in Sociology from Princeton University, and an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
