Chromatograms: A quanitatative analysis of our separation.

A chromatogram is a graphical representation of our separated eluents which can be used to identify compounds and to determine their relative concentrations within the mixture. How is this done?

These are plots of concentration versus time of the eluents coming through the stationary phase. A detector is designed to register the presence of a wide range of compounds and will relay information to a connected data system as sample components pass through. A plotter provides a hard copy graphical representation as shown below:
