After your sample has been properly prepared, you now need to record your spectrum. [picture of the sample bay on the infrared spectrometer]
First, insert your sample into the IR spectrometer using one of the sample holders [pictures of each of the holders]. Next, decide how many scans you want.The more scans that are taken the longer it will take to get the final output. A typical first infrared spectrum is taken using 4 scans.
Next, determine what slit width you want to use. {Do students have control over this in the intro labs. I don't remember}
