The text is divided into five unnumbered <DIV1>s:
1. <DIV1> Adam Davy's Dreams ... = p.11-16
2. <DIV1> The Legend or Life of St. Alexius = p.17-79
Alexius is divided into four <DIV2>s, corresponding
to the four versions of the life of St. Alexius
as ennumerated on p.17 (the "longest," "shortest,"
"shorter," and "longer" versions).
These are printed in four sections, divided
from one another by horizontal lines (except
on p. 19, which is occupied entirely by the
"longest" (Laud) version).
The bottom two sections are further
divided into two <DIV3>s each, parallel
versions of the life from two different MSS.
Treat the six different MSS. versions as
running parallel texts as per the Guidelines.
<DIV2> The first version (Laud 622)
= numbered, twelve-line <LG>s (N="1", etc.)
<DIV2> The second version (Cotton)
= no <LG>s (single, unbroken poem in <L>s).

<DIV3> 1st MS (Vernon)
= unnumbered, six-line <LG>s
<DIV3> 2nd MS (Laud 108)
= unnumbered, six-line <LG>s
<DIV2> The fourth version, in two MSS:
<DIV3> 1st MS (Laud 463)
= unnumbered, six-line <LG>s
<DIV3> 2nd MS (Trinity)
= unnumbered, six-line <LG>s
3. <DIV1> King Solomon's Book of Wisdom = p.81-90

introductory headnote and single, unbroken poem.

and so on. They should be placed at the end of
the line opposite which they occur.
Notes
Editorial notes (in brackets) occur sometimes at the
beginning of the poem, sometimes at the end of the poem.
Those at the beginning of the poem (generally MS.
references, with minimal description) should be embedded at
the end of the <HEAD>. Those at the end of the poem should
be embedded at the end of the final line.
Other editorial notes occur (in brackets) in the near
right margins of the individual versions, identified by
superscripts. Embed these at the appropriate place in the
text, discarding the superscripts.
Footnotes identified by superscript arabic numerals should
be embedded as indicated, discarding superscripts.
