This species is a valve linear, sometimes with sightly convex sides; ends rounded. This taxon is distinguished by the markings in the central area, the "bayonet" shaped terminal fissures, and the distinctly convergent and radiate striae. It is closely related to Pinnularia substomatophora Hust(Patrick and Reimer 1966).
