The valve view is cilindrical with a slightly convex surface. The areolae are irregularly arranged, more dense near the center of the valve. At the margin there are spines and slime pours near the center of the valve. (Stoermer and Yang 1969).

Size ranges and morphology


  • Diameter is 8 to 19 micrometers(Stoermer and Yang 1969).
  • Areolae are 20 to 22 in 10 micrometers (Stoermer and Yang 1969).
  • Spines are about 10 in 10 micrometers (Stoermer and Yang 1969).
