We went directly to Lansing last year to talk to our state representatives about charging companies for permits to pollute Michigan's waters. Without legislation like that, taxpayers are paying for the pollution that causes beach closings and health problems.
Representative Andy Meisner met with us at the start of the day with some words of encouragement and to answer questions we had about his proposed legislation. On campus, Students for PIRGIM made a (very colorful) fish that hundreds of students signed and was later sent to Lansing. It delivered a message of student support for clean water. We also worked with UM faculty, which signed onto a letter to members of the State Legislature. |
