long-term potentiation (LTP)
- an increase in neural activity at particular synapses will “strengthen” those synapses
- this strengthening process involves an in crease in synaptic efficacy which simply means that a greater synaptic response will be produced in response to a given input
- response is believed to last from hours to days (short-term responses)
