Missing: The cira-1970/1980s Merit Logo, a red circle with three spokes, overlaid with black words MERIT COMPUTER NETWORK starting from the hub.
The three spokes represented the three original members of Merit, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and Wayne State University.
At the time, MERIT was an acronym for:
M | ichigan |
---|---|
E | ducational |
R | esearch |
I | nformation |
T | riad |
Later, when Western Michigan University joined, this logo wasn't changed, but the acronym was changed to:
M | ichigan |
---|---|
E | ducational |
R | esearch |
I | nformation |
T | etrad |
Eventually, more and more of Michigan's public universities joined, and the idea that MERIT was an acronym was dropped. It became simply Merit.
