Subject Specialist Role
As the Library's sociology selector, I purchase scholarly (and occasionally popular culture) materials in support of the research and instructional programs of the Department of Sociology and allied campus units. As the subject specialist for this area,
I perform the following functions:
- Selection of print and electronic resources
- Research consultations
- Subject oriented library instruction
- Development of networked information resources
- Management of existing collections
- Library information sharing

In addition to serving as sociology selector, I have overall coordinating responsibility for Graduate Library collections. I also serve as Head of Library Research Services with a focus on coordinating subject-based support for scholars and am Head of th
e Library's Humanities Team.
Background
My educational background includes a Ph.D. in Sociology from Michigan State University with a subject focus on stratification, race and gender inequality, and conflict and change. I hold an MLS from the University of Michigan and have worked at the Univ
ersity of Michigan University Library since 1985. Areas of Library interest include collection development, library history and research methods.
