Archives & Records Department
Mission Statement
Records are important to the identity of the Waganakising Odawak, as proof of our authentic past, accountability, collective memory, and management of our organizations and resources. The Archives & Records Department of the Waganakising Odawak will collect, preserve, manage and protect all our records that are deemed significant and contain information, knowledge, and wisdom of our past, present and future in any form that they might exist or means to collect it. The Archives and Records Department shall serve the Waganakising Odawak, based on the ability of the records to meet this mission statement, and other management documents that are created as the need arises, and as defined by the Waganakising Odawak.
This department is responsible for the collection and preservation of our tribal history and culture. It maintains collections of tribal government records, photographs, objects and documents that are significant to our identity as Odawa people. These collections are made available to the public for research and reference purposes. The department creates exhibits, educational presentations, and publishes information about a wide range of topics drawn from its collections and activities.
The staff currently consists of one full time employee, as well as volunteers. Our office hours are Monday and Friday 8am-5pm, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8am-9pm and at other times by appointment. You are welcome to come in to use the collections but remember, we can assist you with finding a collection to work with, but we cannot do the research f or you.
