Tribal Chairman & Executive Assistant
The Tribal Chairman shares in the responsibility of the LTBB Tribal Council in carrying out the duties mandated by the Little Traverse Bay Bands Tribal Constitution. The Chairman carries out the actions taken by the LTBB Tribal Council including implementing the tribal legislation that governs us as a people today. The Chairman is a representative designated to negotiate with other tribal, state and federal governments. The Chairman serves as the tribal representative for such organizations as the National Congress of American Indians, Midwest Alliance of Sovereign Tribes, and the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan. Critical issues for the Chairman's office are sovereignty, treaty rights, tribal economic growth, and the preservation of cultural traditions. To further the ends of tribal governance, the Tribal Chairman coordinates with other agencies of the tribal government, such as Tribal Court and Election Board. This position interfaces with Tribal Administration in implementing processes and procedures as defined by the Tribal Council for Tribal Organizations, including the review and signing of funding contracts.
The Executive Assistant holds the responsibility for the coordination of Tribal Council meetings, agenda setting, posting draft legislation, and the organization of Tribal Council business. Maintenance of board minutes and tribal legislation, are additional duties in order to assist in keeping the members of Little Traverse Bay Bands informed. Services provided by this office are networking with the Tribal Council, Tribal Administrator, departmental staff, and outside agencies to assist in the flow of communication. Correspondence, travel arrangements, record keeping, and oversight of the Tribal Chairman and Tribal Council budgets are additional responsibilities. The Executive Assistant serves as a representative for Tribal Council or the Tribal Chairman, when designated, to assist in the Tribal Council and Tribal Chairman beiing kept up to date on current issues.
