Human Services Department
Mission Statement
The Human Services Department of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians is committed to the support and preservation of all aspects of family life, and to wrapping our services around the Anishinaabek communities.
We will help restore holistic balance by calling upon existing resources of elders, trained professionals, traditional and spiritual leaders to empower individuals and families, and strengthen the circle of life as envisioned by our Odawa ancestors.
We recognize the essential role of the family as the source of well-being and strength for our families and communities.
The Human Services Department has several programs that fall under its blanket. Program services include Child Welfare, Social Services, Families First Crisis Intervention, Commodity Food Distribution, Low Income Energy Assistance and the Child Care Development Fund for child care assistance. Additional services provided are outlined under the Department's Grandmothers' Wisdom Mental Health Program and the Biinoogiiyuk Gah Niiganziiwaad Program (Mental Health Youth Initiative). The LTBB Indian Child Welfare Commission works with the Child Welfare services.
