The Charles Walgreen Mansion
11608 S. Longwood Drive
1925-1926, Harry Hale Waterman - architect
Although this house bears his name, it is disputed whether the Walgreens
of pharmecutical fame ever lived here. Some contend that Walgreen
simply purchased it, in order to donate it to an order of nuns for use
as a Catholic retreat house, the Cenacle. Currently, Mercy Home for
Boys and Girls uses the mansion as a shelter for young women. It's
Catholic presence is still felt with Mother Mary in the "backyard".
