Description: Despite being a preventable disease, dental caries is still in high prevalence in both children and adults worldwide. In light of the continued high prevalence of dental caries, other preventive and mitigative approaches may be needed. Although fluoride-containing agents, in combination with dietary improvement and good personal oral hygiene, remain mainstays of caries management, combination of fluoride, calcium and phosphate will provide advantage over existing fluoride-only agents. In the past, the challenge is to add calcium and formulate a better product that truly provides added benefits; not just the same benefits as fluoride or reduce fluoride’s proven benefits. Early clinical trials with calcium-based abrasives combined with fluoride showed poor performance. This symposium will present an overview of cutting-edge technologies that are engineered to minimize Ca++ and F- interactions, and maximize F- and Ca++ bioavailability. Clinical efficacy data providing high-level evidence will be presented in support of these agents’ antihypersensitivity action, early caries remineralization effectiveness, and caries preventive effectiveness.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will learn about the high-level evidences supporting the clinical efficacy and effectiveness of functionalized tri-calcium phospate technology as (1) a caries management agent, and (2) a hypersensitivity therapy.
Attendees will learn about a technology engineered to minimize Ca++ and F- interactions, and maximize F- and Ca++ bioavailability.
