Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an.

It was built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty and originally had five stories, although the structure was rebuilt in 704 during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian to a height of 10 stories.

Its exterior brick facade was renovated during the Ming Dynasty.

A massive earthquake in 1556 heavily damaged the pagoda and reduced it by three stories, to its current height of seven stories.

Close by the pagoda is the Temple of Great Maternal Grace; Da Ci'en. This temple was originally built in AD 589 and then rebuilt AD 647 in memory of his mother Empress Wende by Li Zhi who later became the Tang Emperor Gaozong.

The monk Xuanzang's statue stands in front of the temple area.

On January 23, 1556, this Province was rocked with an estimated 8.0 magnitude earthquake that is listed as the most deadly one on record in terms of casualties (roughly 830,000).
