University Homeless Empowerment Relationship Organization Constitution

Mission Statement

University Homeless Empowerment Relationship Organization (UHERO) is a University of Michigan student group dedicated to educating the university community on issues of homelessness. In addition, the group strives to commit acts of service that benefit the homeless population. In doing so, UHERO hopes to empower every individual it comes into contact with, as well as every one of its members. Our mission is three–fold: to support and aid our parent organization HERO, educate the University of Michigan community on poverty–related issues, and volunteer with other local charities that aid the homeless in Washtenaw county.

Article I: Organization Affiliation

UHERO is affiliated with our parent organization Homeless Empowerment Relationship Organization (HERO).

Article II: Membership

UHERO is open to any University of Michigan students during the school year. To be considered a member one must attend three meetings and one UHERO event.

Article III: Executive Board Positions

One elected member can assume multiple positions
  1. President
    1. Liaison between UHERO and HERO
    2. Responsible for the meeting agenda
    3. Aware of UHERO financial transaction
    4. Oversees organization operations
    5. Ensures Executive Board members fulfill their duties
    6. Sends emails regarding organization meetings
  2. Secretary
    1. Responsible for meeting minutes
  3. Member Recruiter
    1. Responsible for recruitment of members
    2. Responsible for member information
  4. Treasurer
    1. Controls financial transactions
    2. Applies for funding
    3. Controls UHERO reimbursements
    4. Responsible for financial records
    5. Sends bi-weekly financial reports to Executive board
  5. Event Coordinator
    1. Responsible for planning and executing events
    2. Writes and sends event reports to Executive board
    3. Responsible for publicity of Events
    4. Must plan at least one event

Article IV: Amendments

Constitution must be amended by a two-thirds majority

Article V: Executive Board Elections

  1. Requirements
    1. Must be a member to be eligible for Executive Board positions
  2. Must receive a simple majority to be elected to a position
  3. All elections will be held in March

Article VI: Executive Board Removals

An Executive Board member can only be removed if receives a two-thirds vote from the Executive board
