FCC License Information and Review Session

Time: 9:30 AM Saturday, October 20, 2007

Location: 3437 EECS (on North Campus)

Have you wondered what it takes to get an Amateur radio license, obtain an FCC (Federal Communications Commission) call sign, and transmit over the radio?  The UM-ARC will host a licensing exam review session on Saturday, October 20 in 3437 EECS, from 9:30 AM until 12 PM to help students get their first FCC license.

During this session, Bill AA8RW and Lora KC8UDG will:

If you are interested, have any questions, and/or would like to register for this review session (please RSVP) email Lora.

Some material will be presented, but please come prepared because we will not be able to cover everything.  Here's the best way to prepare:

  1. Go to the Technician License Info Page and download the Technician question pool (available in several formats thanks to Bill AA8RW).
  2. Then, download Dan KB6NU's Technician Study Guide (Updated 10/19/07: download Bill's modified version here which has margin notes relating each section to actual FCC questions.)
  3. Go through the exam pool questions. If you don't get one correct or need more information, check with the Study Guide. Still no luck? Make a list of any questions you do not understand and we'll tackle them on Saturday.

In addition to Dan's Study Guide and other material/links on Bill's licensing site, the "ARRL Ham Radio License Manual" is on reserve in the Duderstadt Center (Engineering Library reference desk) under call number PC12. The library also has copies of "Ham Radio for Dummies" (TK 9956 .S55) and the "ARRL Handbook" (TK 6550 .R117) and several other books on Amateur Radio.
