COLLEGE OF PHARMACY

The College offers the professional degree Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and the academic degrees Bachelor of Science in Medicinal Chemistry (BSMedChem) and Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPharmSc). Admission requires junior standing (at least 60 semester hours of credit). Most U-M students spend their first two years in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Students with international educational experience should complete one year and preferably two years of prior study in residence at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.

The Doctor of Pharmacy degree program is designed for students who wish to qualify for the several career opportunities available to licensed pharmacists. If you have no previous work in a U. S. college of pharmacy, you will be considered for admission to the first year of the four-year professional program. If you have completed work in a college of pharmacy, including having earned a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy, you may be considered for admission at advanced levels depending upon your qualifications and the availability of places at a given class level.

The Bachelor of Science degree programs are designed for students who are interested in employment in the pharmaceutical industry or who wish to qualify for graduate work in pharmaceutically-related fields. Graduates of these bachelor degree programs are not eligible for licensure as a pharmacist. These degrees may be completed in two additional years beyond the preparatory requirements described above.

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in speaking and writing English with an acceptable score on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), including the Oral Interview, or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), including the Test of Spoken English (TSE).
