With
their dedication to coaching, Bev
and Scott ensured their athletes
would be the "Leaders and Best,"
both athletically, academically
and beyond. Achilles injuries sidelined
me my sophomore and junior years
but I was able to use some of that
time to become involved in both
basic and clinical research projects
at the medical school. Coupled with
these positive research experiences,
my respect and appreciation for
Michigan's team physicians and trainers
facilitated my return to competitive
form and solidified my decision
to apply to medical school.
Now, nearing the end of my studies
at Columbia, I have decided to pursue
orthopaedic surgery and will begin
applying for residency positions
next fall. Michigan gymnastics was
my introduction to the fragile nature
and recuperative capacity of the
body, while the rigors of both practice
and competition instilled a strong
work ethic, discipline, and confidence.
Michigan gymnastics could not have
better prepared me for the demands
and intensity of medical school
and a career in orthopaedic surgery.
